Review of the Romow Web Directory

Romow Web Directory LogoThere seems to be a neverending supply of Web directories online, all competing for your time and money as a webmaster trying to build links to your website(s). I generally don’t consider mass Web directory submissions to be a very good marketing or link building tactic. However, there are several premium Web directories, like the Romow Web Directory, that are worth the cost for a few reasons:

1. There’s less competition for visibility in premium directories as opposed to free directories.

2. Premium directories are usually more actively marketed, meaning there’s a better chance of getting actual traffic from links submitted, in addition to pure link value.

When choosing a Web directory to submit your sites to, additional features and resources can also be an important factor. If you want your links to drive targeted traffic to your site, not only does your link need to appear in the most appropriate directory category, but the directory also has to be bringing in traffic from visitors other than simply other webmasters looking to add links. The Romow Web Directory has several added resources to help attract visitors, giving your links greater exposure:

1. Wordpress Themes - Free Wordpress themes are an excellent resource for any blogger using the Wordpress platform, and the Romow Web Directory offers several high quality designs (and that’s coming from someone that’s rather picky about Wordpress themes). There were quite a few there that I haven’t come across before, and even a couple that I couldn’t resist downloading for upcoming blog launches.

2. phpLD Templates - phpLD is a common Web directory script used by directory owners. The Romow Web Directory also offers a collection of free phpLD templates in addition to free Wordpress themes.

3. Link Popularity Tool - This free tool lets you quickly check a site’s incoming links from Google and Yahoo!, the site’s PageRank, Technorati and Del.icio.us listings, and DMOZ inclusion in one step.

4. Keyword Search Tool - This is another free tool for webmasters and online business owners, which allows the visitor to search keywords for search frequency. It also suggests similar keywords in an effort to help users target better keywords in their SEO efforts.

5. Blogs - The directory also includes several blogs to help attract readers, covering a wide variety of topics offered in the directory.

Overall, I don’t have anything negative to say about the Romow Web Directory. The owner is doing their part to attract traffic to give added value to the links, and that’s the most important thing I’d consider in choosing any Web directory. The directory is also ranked well, and the free resources for users are top notch. From a user perspective, the categories are logical and broken down well enough that it’s pretty easy to find what you’re looking for, and you don’t have to dig through hoards of garbage listings in order to find some quality sites.

Final judgement: Worth submitting to? Yes. Worth visiting as a search aid? Yes. Worth checking out the free resources? Double yes.
